Bridge of Sighs Venice by Edward Sharland (1884-1967)
Edward W.Sharland 1884-1967
Etcher of street scenes and architectural subjects, also sometimes an oil painter and watercolourist, who lived in Bristol. He worked for a cabinet maker and was a self taught artist, and a regular exhibitor at the R.W.A, showing over 50 works between 1910 and 1937. The subjects, mostly etchings, were street scenes and studies of buildings.
Sharland exhibited three Bristol views at the Royal Academy in 1911, 1923 and 1925. Frost and Reed published a series of his etchings of local streets and views of Venice and Toledo in 1934.
Later his work was published by Gloucester Galleries, Bristol. IN 1950 he moved to Cornwall, where he died in 1967 at the age of 83.
